Troleuse
Shelbey Leco swimming with her grandfather Vincent Leco’s handmade trawling net in the photograph entitled “Trouleuse”. Her family, originally from the Philippines, hunted, trapped and fished in what was known as Manilla Village.

Talisman
Gahiji Akil Lumumba holds the bones he’s collected over the years as his talisman in this photograph. When I asked him what did he plan to bring underwater, he answered “ I don’t own much.” How refreshing! Here we see the bones of a stork, a dog’s skull?, hip and leg bones to some little ones.

Piano Player
John Murphy asked me to photograph him underwater with parts of his piano surrounding him. A classical concert pianist, he lived in Broadmoor, New Orleans before Katrina but lost his grand piano when the levees failed. The shock of this event halted his desire to play for many years since.

Painter
Davin Roberson is an abstract painter and someone that gives me great hope in the future. He paints under the water’s membrane which is one of the greatest abstraction tool.

Girded
Pauly Lingerfelt is a kind of celebrity tattoo artist. He brought the machete and I brought the fire bucket, just in case he needed it for an emergency.

Trailings
In “Trailings” we see the remnants of John Murphy’s piano hammers and other piano parts that were stored away until this shoot.

Warbler
Sr. Alison McCrary, the radical nun and lawyer is holding a dead yellow warbler. She had told me she was mourning the slow death of the Catholic Church, while I mourn the disconnect of religion for the environment and the future of all sentient beings.
